Small Group Communities @ RMC

Meet people and make friends. You really need to be in a small group!

At RMC, we are not only committed to growing larger by helping those not in a church connect with Christ, but to grow smaller and more intimate as we connect with each other in small groups. Small groups meet regularly to laugh together, learn from God's word together, and love and support each other. We are committed to small groups because it is in close relationships with others where the most significant life change takes place!

Groups meet throughout the week, in various homes and on the RMC campus.  We encourage and promote the starting of new groups.  We host a periodic Starting Point meetings where you can learn about new small groups forming, starting your own group, or existing groups.

There are two primary levels of Small Groups at RMC: Journey and Life Groups:

Journey Groups  A place to meet and make friends, while learning more about God.  A 6-week Journey with the goal of finding your fit in a longer-term group.

  • Growing Closer  Group life is to foster close and long-term relationships, mutual care and support, and significant growth in becoming like Jesus.
  • Test Drive These groups meet for 6 weeks to “test drive” the interaction within the group (a Journey of learning).  If you find a good fit with good friends, then you may want to take the next step and form a Life Group.  If you are not ready to commit to a Life Group, then just start the “test drive” process again with a new goup in the next StartingPointE cycle.
  • Meeting Place  Groups will generally meet at the RMC campus, with child-care provided.  Groups are urged to have at least one social event away from the church campus.
  • Groups Study  Curriculum will generally be the same for all Journey groups.  Curriculum will be different for each StartingPointE cycle, so people who take the next Journey will have new material.

Life Groups  Close fellowships where members laugh, love, and experience life together, while growing to be more like Jesus through Bible study, prayer, and support for each other with the closeness and personal touch often necessary in life.

  • Growing Closer  Group life is to foster close and long-term relationships, mutual care and support, and significant growth in becoming like Jesus.  This goal drives the structure of Life Groups

  • Year Commitment Generally, groups commit to meet together for a year, with the option to "re-up" for successive years.  Groups are urged to meet together every week or every-other week, with appropriate times off during holidays and summer.
  • How Many Group Members While we acknowledge that group dynamics may differ and groups may decide the number of members comprising the group, it is recommended that groups be about 6 couples or 8 singles.  The goal is to have a healthy group where each member can fully participate, give and receive support.
  • Stable and Predictable Life Groups are “closed for stability and predictability” – meaning no new members without unanimous agreement.  This is to preserve the atmosphere of confidentiality already existing in the group.  New group members are added only with the unanimous agreement of the group members.
  • Members Covenant  So that everyone will understand and honor the other group members, all members sign a contract for confidentiality and mutual accountability.
  • Members Care  Life Groups share celebration, education and grief with the same involvement as biological families might.  Many of the functions of previous “ministries” are performed within these groups.
  • Meeting Place  To further closeness, these groups often meet in each other’s homes rather than the church campus.
  • Groups Study  Groups study material provided by RMC as well a other appropriate material approved for integrity by the Small Group Coordinator and/or the Session.  There will be times when all LIfe Groups will be studying the same material, and times when the groups choose studies according to their own interests and needs.
